Although I had the mandatory suburbanite pickup truck when I bought my house, I no longer need one. I insist.
After the first few years of sorting out the landscaping outside and furnishings inside, the truck was no longer getting much use as a truck. I probably kept it too long. Then the Prius served as a good truck substitute, but now . . .
Now I have a car that can haul ass and also haul at least six bales of pine needle mulch! And before that hauled a load of old paint and lumber to the recycling center, and a load of donations to Goodwill, including a bookshelf. (Fall cleaning.)
Of course, I wouldn’t have spent ten minutes vacuuming out the truck . . .

Hahaha. Same boat here - you should see how much I can fit in the Fiat.

Didn’t document it, but we recently went camping with our Vibe and I was stunned at how cramped it was by the time it was loaded. We overpack for camping I admit, but the same supplies don’t even fill up half the bed of my pickup (which we took last year). We’re getting a roof rack and learning how to downsize.

Not even a week after my Ranger was traded in, my friend wanted me to carry a tree for him. My dad wouldn’t let me, but very unfortunate timing, especially because the Ranger was rarely used for truck things.

Just transported multiple 8ft long pieces of baseboard inside my Golf R... Hatches/wagons FTW! I also regularly pick up the straw/pine shavings/chicken feed in my R. But I also have every available WeatherTech mat in my car.

The Prius withstood underimproved gravel forest roads well and had lots of room for backpacking gear (of course) or car camping loads for two people and dog. I’m not inclined to abuse the GTI with some of those roads, though, so I’ll have to make some tough choices there.

I always keep a tarp in my cars in the spare tire well. That takes care of most debris.

I decided that the infrequent cost of delivery of items, or truck rental, was better than putting up with the fuel costs and no-fun driving of the truck. But my Ranger served me well while I had it. I definitely used it as a truck for the first 7 or 8 years out of the 11 I owned it.

My current hobbies do not require hauling such things. So, no, it can’t, but that’s okay.

I kept my 4Runner around for truck things, but the hatch is broken, so I have no access to the back. At least it will pull a trailer. Luckily most of what I need to carry will fit in the Fiesta.

Gotta love hatchbacks! I also love their rear wipers, something so simple but I love so much. I should really buy a hatchback.
